About Flora
I have always been fascinated by animals, plants and the landscape that surrounds us.
When I moved to London, I suddenly realised how much I missed the open air and dramatic countryside of where I grew up in the Scottish Highlands. My father was always dedicated to teaching us about our environment. When driving our long journeys down to England to stay with my grandparents every Easter and Summer holidays we would have to spot and name the birds that came by, the plants in the gardens we visited and of course the animals around us.
In 2018, I remember watching the news as they announced that Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhino had died leaving only two females left in the entire species. I felt oblivous to the fact that animals around us were dying out and had only ever related extinction to the dinosaurs and the dodo.
It was in lockdown that I started drawing again as a way to pass time but also for my mental health as I found it to be incredibly therapeutic in such an unknown time. The gravitas of lockdown reminded me of how fragile the world really is and I decided to focus my art on educating others on the wonderful species that are so severly under threat.
